PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in Peoria have gone up 4.6 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.28 on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 stations in Peoria.
Peoria’s prices are 3.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago, and 35.4 cents a gallon lower than this time last year.
According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $3.09 a gallon, while the most expensive gas was $3.49. The lowest price in the state was $2.81 a gallon, while the highest price in the state was $4.49.
The national average price of gas has dropped 1.8 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.07 on Monday. The national average is down 5.2 cents from a month ago, and 32.8 cents lower than a year ago, according to GasBuddy data.
“Average gas prices declined in nearly all states over the last week as refineries ramped up output and gasoline supplies surged,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy.
“While a few states experienced price cycling—a pattern where prices drop sharply and then spike every couple of weeks—the overall gentle downward trend is typical as summer progresses. If oil prices continue to rise gradually, it could eventually impact gas prices, but for now, we likely won’t see any major shifts at the pump in most areas this week,” De Haan said.
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois said the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area Monday was $3.29 a gallon, the state average price was $3.34, and the national average price of unleaded gas was $3.12.
