PEORIA, Ill. – It appears arson is to blame for yet another residential fire this week in Peoria.
Firefighters were called to Homestead Avenue, near NE Brevis Street just before 8:30 Wednesday night, finding fire and smoke coming from a window on the first floor of the home.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Maroney says crews had to force their way in through an exterior door to gain access to the home. Their quick action prevented the fire from spreading throughout the home. The fire was under control within ten minutes.
The home was empty at the time of the fire. Crews remained on scene checking for any fire extension and hot spots.
No injuries were reported. Damage is estimated at $5,000.
