PEORIA, Ill. – The 51st Steamboat Classic gets underway Saturday at 7 a.m. in downtown Peoria.
Race Director Adam White says between spectators and race participants, they expect between 4,000 and 5,000 people to show up.
The first race Saturday morning will be the Wheelchair 4-Mile, followed by the USA Track and Field Women’s 4-Mile Open, the USATF Men’s 4-Mile Open, the USATF Master’s Race.
“We have an elite field of approximately 20 women and 20 men in those open races. We have Taylor Roe, world record holder in the women’s 10-mile. We also have on the men’s side Biya Simbassa, who just ran a U.S. National record in the 10K for the road division at 27:32, in addition to a number of other runners,” White says.
The Steamboat Classic also includes the 4-Mile Local Elite Race, 15 K Local Elite Race, and the 4-Mile Citizen’s Race and 15 K.
The races Saturday morning will begin at NE Washington and Hamilton, and finish at Main and Water Streets.
