NEW YORK/BOSTON – Two of Illinois’ legal online sportsbooks say they are planning to add a surcharge to online bets made in the state.
FanDuel and DraftKings say they plan to implement a 50 cent per-transaction fee on September 1st, in response to a per-wager tax passed in the most recent state budget.
The FY26 state budget includes a tax of 25 cents per wager for a licensee’s first 20 million wagers accepted, then 50 cents per wager after that. Governor J.B. Pritzker has yet to sign the budget into law.
Both FanDuel and DraftKings say they will drop their surcharge if the state tax is rescinded.
25 News reports the tax does not apply to in-person betting, such as at the Par-A-Dice Casino, but the Illinois Gaming Board is reviewing the fee.
