PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is warning of a scam involving missed jury duty.
Sheriff Chris Watkins says a woman received a call informing her she had an arrest warrant against her because she missed jury duty.
The caller said the warrant would be lifted if she between one-thousand and 15-thousand dollars through a bank transfer. But, when the bank wouldn’t go through with it, she was told to go to a Bitcoin kiosk.
25 News reports the sheriff’s office said it does not tell someone about an arrest warrant over the phone or tell anyone to use Bitcoin kiosk to send money.
