PEORIA, Ill. – A 15-year-old will be tried as an adult in connection to a shooting from February that injured a nine-year-old boy.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says Javon Smith was also ordered held Tuesday at a detention hearing, after his case was transferred to adult court on Monday. He is charged with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm.
Smith has been in custody at the Peoria County Juvenile Detention Center since the shooting.
Smith is accused of being one of three people allegedly breaking into vehicles on February 2nd at the River West Apartments.
A witness confronted the group, who then fled, but Smith allegedly raised a gun and fired at the witness as he ran away.
The bullet from that shot reportedly struck the nine-year-old, who was inside his home at the time.
