PEORIA, Ill. – It takes a village to raise a child, said a spokesperson for Peoria-based Children’s Home Association of Illinois, which is offering help for expecting moms and mothers of young children.
The organization is hosting the Nourishing Nook Lactation Open House on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon, located at 311 W John H Gwynn Jr Ave. in Peoria.
Home lactation specialists, local doulas, and home visitors will show people how to use nursing products, how to determine how much milk a newborn needs, and how to estimate how much milk they are drinking.
Brandis Holloway-Webb, with the CHAIL told 25 News it’s important to create a village and extend the helping hand so that parents know they’re not alone.
“We want to let people know they have support, and with support they’re more than likely to meet their goals as well,” she said. “If we can reach out to those families and [they] feel comfortable coming in, they’re going to be more successful. They are going to have better health outcomes.”
