PEORIA, Ill. – The Peoria County Coroner has identified the victim of a fatal shooting in Peoria, while police say one suspect is in custody.
Teron Scott, Jr., 20, was found dead by officers around 2:41 a.m. Friday in a vehicle that had crashed into a tree in Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
Coroner Jamie Harwood said an autopsy shows Scott suffered a gunshot wound to the head and died instantly,
Peoria police say a second victim, a 19-year-old man, was transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand that was considered non-life-threatening.
Police spokesperson Simone Roth said initial information gathered at the scene indicated the victim’s vehicle had sustained multiple strikes attributed to gunfire. The collision that followed the shooting was significant, and the vehicle sustained severe damage as a result.
During the course of the investigation, detectives developed information that led to the identification of a suspect, 20-year-old Christopher P. Adams.

Adams was taken into custody without incident around 9 a.m. Friday in the 200 block of SW Adams Street by members of the Special Investigations Unit.
Adams was transported to the Peoria Police Department Criminal Investigations Division for interview purposes, where he was subsequently arrested by detectives for First Degree Murder. He was then transported to the Peoria County Jail.
This investigation is ongoing.

At last report, police had no suspect information. The incident remains under investigation.

UPDATED 4:52 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – A 20-year-old man died after a shooting in South Peoria early Friday morning.
Officers responded just before 2:45 A.M. to the area of MacArthur and McBean after a vehicle crash, learning of a shooting in the location. They arrived to find a vehicle had crashed into a tree at MLK Park.
Officers spotted the 20-year-old inside the vehicle with a gunshot wound to the head, and was pronounced dead at the scene. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the victim was found in the back seat of the vehicle.
A second victim, a 19-year-old male, was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand…but his injuries are considered non-life-threatening.
Police currently have no suspects.

PEORIA, Ill. – A man is dead after a shooting early Friday morning in downtown Peoria.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says the man was found shot in a car at the corner of MacArthur Highway and McBean just before 3 a.m. The car wrecked in MLK Jr. Park nearby.
The coroner says it’s unclear who was driving the vehicle, but the man found dead was a in the back seat.
Peoria Police say a second victim arrived later at a hospital with a gunshot wound. Their injuries were said to be non-life-threatening.
MacArthur Highway was closed early Friday morning while police were investigating.
The deceased has not yet been identified. An autopsy is scheduled for later Friday.
