PEORIA, Ill. – Numerous locations are available this week for people who need to get out of the extreme heat.
A heat advisory is in effect until Thursday night with heat index values reaching as high as 105.
The city of Peoria says all fire stations will serve as cooling centers from 7:00 A.M. to 7:00 P.M. each day, and the Peoria Police lobby on Adams Street from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M.
Many locations are open in Tazewell County. In East Peoria, the Civic Plaza on Washington Street is open from 8:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M., and EastSide Center is open from 6:00 A.M. to 8:00 P.M.
In Pekin, the police department lobby on Capitol St. is open from 7:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M., and the Tazewell County Justice Center lobby is open from 8:00 A.M. to 10:00 P.M. The Pekin Salvation Army is open from 12:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.
The Washington Police Department is serving as a cooling center from 7:00 A.M. to 11:00 P.M.
The Creve Coeur Library is open from 10:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. from Monday to Thursday.
