PEORIA, Ill. – The Dream Center Peoria is dealing with air conditioning problems at two of its locations, including the shelter in downtown Peoria and the new Zoe House, a shelter for moms and new babies in Washington.
The Dream Center’s Andy King tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan”, within a week, they were looking at roughly $16,000 in AC and HVAC bills. That’s something you just can’t plan for…so, they’re asking for the public’s help.
King says the AC completely quit at the shelter two weeks ago. And, with 120 to 130 people staying there…mostly young mothers with children, it’s very uncomfortable.
“Our whole thing is dignity…we want to bring dignity to folks. That doesn’t just mean what we feed them or anything like that, it’s also being comfortable,” King says.

King says they are getting closer to being able to replace the systems, but they are in an emergency situation with the extreme heat.
