PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria firefighters were sent to a fire in the area of S. Stanley Street and W. Krause early Wednesday morning.
Fire Battalion Chief Mike Ralston says when crews arrived just after 2 a.m., they found a large amount of fire and smoke coming from multiple levels of the home.
The fire extended to an adjacent home, burning its exterior. The firefighters’ quick action prevented it from spreading inside the home.
The home that initially caught fire was vacant and unoccupied. It was a total loss. Damage was estimated at $80,000.
One adult was home at the time of the fire in the house next door. They got out safely before crews arrived.
The fire was under control in less than 30 minutes, but firefighters remained on the scene checking for hidden fire and hot spots.
A fire investigator said the cause of the fire was arson.
No firefighter injuries were reported on scene.
