UPDATE 1:02 P.M.
PEORIA, Ill. – The cause of death for a seven-month-old South Peoria baby who died on Tuesday has been identified.
Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood says Eland Davis suffered abusive head trauma perpetrated by another.
Eland Davis was taken to a local hospital Tuesday morning unresponsive with no heartbeat or breathing, and later died.
41-year-old Dwayne Davis has been charged with First Degree Murder in Eland’s death.
A caretaker had told police that Eland was placed in a bed overnight with a parent, with the parent rolling over onto him during the night, with Eland found unresponsive the next morning.
Harwood says Eland’s injuries were inconsistent with that testimony.
Davis was arrested later in the day on Tuesday.

PEORIA, Ill. – The death of a seven-month-old baby in Peoria is being investigated as a homicide.
Peoria Police says 41-year-old Dwayne Davis was arrested on Tuesday for First Degree Murder, as well as Endangering the Life and Health of a Child, in connection to the death.
Officers responded just after 10:00 A.M. Tuesday to Kersee and McBean on reports of the baby not breathing.
The baby was found in an upstairs bedroom where Peoria Fire and AMT medics were performing life-saving measures, but the baby later died at a hospital.
A caregiver told police that the baby was placed in bed overnight with a parent, and the parent rolled over onto the baby during the night, discovering the baby unresponsive after waking the next morning.
Peoria Police says an autopsy later in the day revealed injuries inconsistent with a rollover death, and more aligned with a traumatic, non-accidental event.
Davis was taken in for questioning later in the day, then arrested and taken to the Peoria County Jail.
