PEORIA HEIGHTS, Ill. – There’s a new person leading the Peoria Heights Police Department.
The village announced Wednesday that Chris Ahart is now the police chief. He takes over for Dustin Sutton, who retired from the police department after 30 years and will remain in Peoria Heights as Village Administrator.
Ahart was hired by Peoria Heights in 1999 after spending three years at the Peoria County Sheriff’s Department, and became deputy chief in 2012. Ahart also serves as the Peoria Heights School District board president.
The village board approved a four-year contract for Ahart with a compensation of $125,000 a year.
In a statement from the village, Ahart says he plans to make “old-school policing” a priority, which involves uniformed officers being more visible in Peoria Heights, as well as employing the latest technologies.
Ahart also named Jodie Brackney to be deputy chief, the village’s first-ever female deputy chief.
