PEORIA, Ill. – The city of Peoria is done waiting for repairs to be made to a downtown building.
25 News reports that the city has requested a Peoria County judge enforce minimum fines of more than two million dollars against MJ Illinois LLC, who owns the Riverview Plaza building.
This comes after a settlement was reached between the two sides in September.
The building was closed last February after a water main break occurred, which led to the discovery of numerous repairs needed to the fire alarm and sprinkler system.
The city has rejected a timeline by MJ Illinois to have the work done by March of next year.
City Attorney Patrick Hayes says the owners promised to finish the work by the end of last year, but that work has not started.
An attorney for MJ Illinois says the fines are unnecessary and will prevent the owner from paying for the repair work.
