EAST PEORIA, Ill. – Drivers will have to slow down on a portion of Interstate 74 near East Peoria.
IDOT says the 55 MPH zone in the westbound lanes near the Pinecrest interchange was moved one mile east on Tuesday.
IDOT’s Paul Wappel says it was done for safety reasons.
“Crash data indicated a disproportionate number of wet pavement crashes along the curve in the WB direction and the existing speed limit sign was in the middle of the curve,” Wappel said.
Wappel says moving the speed limit gives motorists more time to slow down before the curve.
He says IDOT is also looking into other potential improvements to reduce crashes on that stretch of road.
