PEORIA, Ill. – The oldest commercial building in Peoria is now home to a Latin American bistro.
The city announced the Powell Press Building is now the home of El Mirador en el Rio.
The Powell Press Building was built in 1852 and has been used as a printing shop to a visitor’s center.
Construction of El Mirador started in March and opened on July 4th, with a three-year lease for the location.
Renovations by the bistro’s owners include a reconfigured kitchen, and an outdoor patio. The owners contributed $150,000 of the cost, with the city pitching in $50,000.
