PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) –The Peoria Public Schools Board of Education tabled action Monday on hiring a search firm to find the district’s next superintendent.
PPS staff have recommended the board hire From the Heart International Education Services from Arlington, Texas.
The board voted 4-3 on Monday to delay a vote until their next meeting on August 25.
Board member Brenda Wilson asked the district to release proposals from all five firms that want the contract, and the cost to the district’s taxpayers.
“I’m asking that we just take a pause and do the process again at the next meeting, but share everything so it’s transparent, and do it with integrity,” Wilson said.
Board member Christina Rose noted From the Heart posted the superintendent’s position on its website without the board’s approval and that the ad contained false information.
“The posting was not only premature, but it was inaccurate regarding the number of students, the number of buildings, and the requirement of the superintendent to reside in Peoria,” Rose said.
Board President Gregory Wilson and members Larry Ivory and Martha Ross voted against tabling the measure.
The board is tasked with finding a replacement for Superintendent Dr. Sharon Desmoulin-Kherat, who is retiring when her contract expires at the end of the school year.
