PEORIA, Ill. – A 15-year-old was arrested after allegedly carjacking a taxi driver early Sunday morning in Peoria.
Peoria Police say officers responded just before 1:30 A.M. to the area of Armstrong and Underhill on reports of the robbery.
Police say the 55-year-old taxi driver told police he picked up two males in the area of Saratoga and McBean. Shortly after, one of the males allegedly placed an unknown object on the driver’s neck and demanded he exit the vehicle.
The suspects fled after the driver complied.
The stolen taxi was later spotted on Sheridan Road, and an unsuccessful traffic stop was performed. But police say one 15-year-old jumped from the moving vehicle and was apprehended on foot.
A firearm was allegedly found in the 15-year-old’s flight path.
The teenager was arrested for Vehicular Hijacking, Armed Violence, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Resisting Police, No FOID, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition without a FOID Card. He was taken to the Juvenile Detention Center.
A second 15-year-old was detained and released to a guardian.
