PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Public Works is two years into a two-and-a-half year project converting Adams Street and Jefferson Avenue downtown from one-way to two-way traffic.
Public Works’ Nick McMillion says they’re moving into a new phase of the project on Monday.
“We have a two-week window that we’re shooting for. We’re going to completely mill, overlay and pave Adams Street…from Walnut all the way down to Hamilton,” McMillion says.
He tells WMBD’s “Greg and Dan” the resurfacing won’t cause a complete closure, because they’ll be doing the work in sections.
Starting Monday, the far two left lanes and the parking lane on the north side of Adams Street will be closed through October 17.
“If you work downtown, if you work along Adams Street and you’re used to parking on the street…don’t park there,” McMillion says.
It will be another six months until the conversion project is completed, and traffic patterns downtown change.
Peoria Public Works has completed most of the curb and bump out work that is part of the One-Way to Two-Way Conversion Project.
Resurfacing of Jefferson Avenue downtown will begin once the work on Adams Street is done.
