PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. (25 News) – The Peoria County Board voted Thursday night on fee increases that could take effect in the next year.
The board approved fee increases for the coroner’s office, sheriff’s office, health department, animal protection services, and the County Clerk’s office. 25 News reports that the increases were determined by a third party hired to review the fees.
Peoria County Administrator Scott Sorrell said the fees would vary depending on the service provided. He said the current fee for an autopsy would increase from $267 to $280, and the current price of a birth certificate would go from $16 to $20 along with other department increases.
Fee adjustments were determined by a bi-annual fee study, Sorrel said.. Each fee would be dependent on the department.
“It has a two-year implementation of the fee increases, so they’ll go up a little bit in February 2026, and they’ll go up again in January 2027,” Sorrell added.
The increased funds will help cover the labor cost of each department.
