PEORIA, Ill. – Gas prices in Peoria have dropped 2.9 cents a gallon in the last week, averaging $3.18 on Monday, according to GasBuddy’s survey of 148 gas stations in Peoria.
Peoria’s prices are 2.7 cents higher than a month ago and 4.2 cents higher than this time last year.
GasBuddy says the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $2.96 a gallon while the most expensive gas was $3.39. The lowest price in the state was $2.62 while the highest price was $4.49.
GasBuddy’s national average price of gas has dropped 0.4 cents in the last week, averaging $3.03 on Monday. That’s up 1.1 cents from a month ago and 1.1 cents higher than this time last year.
“With oil prices mostly stable near the $60 per barrel level, we’ve seen the national average move very little over the last few weeks. Roughly half of all states saw prices rise in the last week, while the other half saw prices fall,” said Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy. “The West Coast should soon see notable price relief as wholesale prices drop amidst seasonally declining demand. With refinery maintenance nearing completion, we’ll likely see supply improve—and I’m hopeful this will bring the national average solidly below $3 per gallon by Christmas. As for Thanksgiving travel, GasBuddy’s Travel Survey, to be released tomorrow, will highlight some surprising shifts in travel behavior this year.”
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois says the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area was $3.18 on Monday. The state average price of unleaded gas was $3.32 and the national average price was $3.07.
