A man was arrested near Pekin Community High School Tuesday afternoon after a passerby reported seeing him with what appeared to be handguns.
The Pekin Police Department responded to the area of Parkway and Court Street after receiving a report of a male on a bicycle in possession of two handguns in plain view. The man was reported to be traveling north on Parkway.
Due to the close proximity of Pekin Community High School, school administration placed the facility on a brief “secure” protocol to ensure the safety of students and staff.
Officers quickly arrived in the area and located a male matching the physical and clothing description provided by the passerby.
The man initially failed to comply with officers’ commands, but after numerous commands was eventually detained. Officers located two BB handguns in his back pants pockets.
Jesse J. Waters was arrested for resisting and obstructing a peace officer. The investigation is ongoing.
