PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – A fire Saturday morning at Bradley University’s Sigma Nu fraternity house was intentionally set, but was not arson, according to an official with the Peoria Fire Department.
Battalion Chief Josh Martin told 25 News that for an unknown reason, people were burning furniture behind the frat house on W. Fredonia. The side of the two-story building caught fire, and spread to the roof.
The people who started the fire did not mean it to spread to the building, Martin said.
25 News crews said the shingles and part of the back wall of the building were burned.
Firefighters brought the fire under control quickly and found no one inside. Damage is estimated at $100,000. No injuries were reported.
A Bradley University spokesperson said the university found temporary housing for the 16 students living at Sigma Nu.
“We want to thank the Peoria Fire Department for their professionalism and quick response,” the university said in a statement.
