PEORIA, Ill. – The terminals of Peoria International Airport will be busy for the next week as people travel for the Thanksgiving holiday.
Director of Airports Gene Olson says not all seats are bought yet. But the anticipation is around 32,000 passengers to depart and arrive at PIA through next Tuesday.
On Monday, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy declared that Tuesday would be the busiest travel day of the year. But Olson says it’s a different story at PIA.
“Our busiest days are typically the Sunday and Monday after Thanksgiving,” Olson said. “Thanksgiving itself is kind of a lighter travel day. Saturday’s heavy, and Sunday’s very heavy, and Monday’s also heavy.”
Olson says the airport is watching its parking lot to see how many spaces are available.
For those traveling this weekend, Olson is providing advice to make the trip easier. His main point is for travelers to arrive as early as possible, in case a problem were to arise when trying to get on the plane.
As far as what’s in the luggage, Olson says travelers should not have any wrapped presents, saying that TSA could remove the item and unwrap it.
Olson is encouraging people to download apps for the airline they are using to keep up to date on the latest flight information.
