WASHINGTON, Ill. – The home of a brewery in Washington is on the market.
The building that houses Tangled Roots Brewery Company is being listed for sale by McColly Real Estate, for a price tag of $5.25 million.
Washington Planning and Development Director Jon Oliphant tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that the city was caught off-guard by the move from its owners, Grist Mill Ventures LLC.
“We knew that they were looking to sell two other properties that they own, kind of just down the street at 120 and 126 Walnut St., but we were not anticipating the potential sale of the Tangled Roots building, so it was a bit of a surprise there,” Oliphant said.
The sale is for the building itself, and not for the Tangled Roots business, which is operated by a separate LLC.
Oliphant says a TIF redevelopment agreement was in place for Tangled Roots can be transferred to another party, so long as they follow the terms of the original agreement.
The city of Washington believes that there is no indication that Tangled Roots will cease operations. It believes the goal is to keep the restaurant open under new property ownership.
