PEORIA, Ill. – One man was arrested on numerous weapons charges after allegedly shooting two people at a South Peoria birthday party…and being shot himself.
Peoria Police responded Friday just after 10:30 P.M. to the area of Lincoln and Matthew regarding a shooting victim.
Police say a 21-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen and a 60-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, with both injuries considered non-life-threatening.
Witnesses testified that the suspect, later identified as 53-year-old Lonnie Payno, allegedly engaged in a physical altercation with a female party goer. A struggle with shots fired ensued with Payno reportedly leaving in a Jeep
Police say the Jeep was later stopped in the area of McClure and Elmwood, with a firearm allegedly recovered.
Payno told police he was shot in the foot, and was taken to a hospital for treatment before his arrest.
Payno was arrested on two counts of Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, two counts of Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He was taken to the Peoria County Jail.
Police say the driver of the Jeep was arrested for Resisting/Obstructing, and taken to the Peoria County Jail.
