PEORIA, Ill. – Three juveniles were arrested after multiple vehicles were reportedly hijacked in North Peoria on Saturday morning.
Peoria Police says officers received a call just after 8:15 A.M. of a GMC Sierra with a snowplow attachment stolen in the area of Oakwood and Deerbrook.
Police found the truck with five juveniles inside it, with the driver fleeing. Officers did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety concerns and the juveniles involved.
Police say the vehicle was later found with technology aids in the area of Knoxville and Pioneer Parkway, and was eventually slowed to a stop in a parking lot in the area of Knoxville and Picture Ridge. The five juveniles then reportedly fled the truck in different directions.
Police say two of the juveniles, one allegedly with a firearm, ran up to a Genesis at the Northpoint CEFCU ATM, and jumped into it with the driver inside. One of the two reportedly sat on the driver’s lap and forced the vehicle to be driven, before it struck the building and a support post in the parking lot. One of the males allegedly ran inside the CEFCU, where he was taken into custody, and a firearm was reportedly recovered.
The second male allegedly ran to the nearby Hardee’s, and forced the driver out after indicating they had a weapon, and fled the scene in the vehicle. Police say that vehicle was reportedly observed at high rates of speed on Routes 6 and 150, as well as going the wrong way onto Interstate 74 off-ramps. The vehicle was later found and recovered at Lexington Hills.
