PEORIA, Ill. – A 39-year-old woman died at the Peoria County Jail early Tuesday morning.
Peoria County Sheriff Chris Watkins said that Correctional Officers discovered the female detainee unresponsive in her cell at approximately 4:25 A.M. on December 9.
Officers immediately initiated life-saving measures and called for assistance. Emergency responders from AMT and Limestone Fire arrived on scene and continued resuscitation efforts, but those efforts were unsuccessful.
The Peoria County Coroner’s Office responded to the facility following the incident.
The detainee had been booked into the Peoria County Jail on December 7 on a failure-to-appear warrant.
The Illinois State Police and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office are conducting a full investigation into the death, but Watkins says there are no indications of foul play.
