PEORIA, Ill. – A South Peoria church believed to be abandoned is a total loss after a fire Thursday morning.
Peoria Fire crews were called to the building at Blaine and Starr just after 7:00 A.M. on reports of smoke coming from the second floor and roof.
Crews were forced to evacuate the building after not being able to find the fire and conditions inside the building deteriorating. The fire was then fought in a defensive manner by two ladder trucks.
The fire was put out after about three hours, with crews remaining for about two hours after checking for hot spots.
There were no injuries.
An emergency demolition of the building took place.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

25 News reports Peoria Fire crews were called to the Liberty United Love Ministries at Blaine and Starr just after 7:00 A.M. on reports of smoke in the building.
Battalion Chief Josh Maroney says crews initially fought the fire from the inside, but pulled everyone out after conditions deteriorated quickly. The fire was then fought defensively by two ladder trucks.
Demolition of the building is underway.
Maroney says it is not known if the church is active.
