PEORIA, Ill. – A fire Saturday afternoon in Peoria sent one person to the hospital for smoke inhalation, and left two dogs dead at a home in the West Bluff.
Fire Battalion Chief Josh Martin said the call came in around 12:30 p.m. from the 1300 block of N. Broadway Street, between W. Armstrong and W. Columbia Terrace.
Two dogs were found in the home’s basement. They did not survive. AMT took one person to the hospital, another resident was not home at the time.
Both residents were displaced by the fire and the Red Cross is assisting them with temporary housing.
A fire investigator said the cause of the fire was accidental. Damage is estimated at $60,000.
Chief Martin said there were no working smoke detectors in the home.
“The Peoria Fire Department urges all residents to ensure their homes are equipped with working smoke alarms, a critical tool for early fire detection and life safety,” Martin said.
