PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – The Peoria Riverfront Museum is marking America’s 250th birthday with a year-long celebration beginning January 31, featuring seven exhibits, special programming, films, and planetarium shows about America’s history and identity.
The museum has been preparing for more than three years for the country to reach this milestone. The centerpiece of the celebration is an exhibition called The Promise of Liberty, guest-curated by acclaimed filmmaker Ken Burns, known for his documentaries on PBS.
Museum President John Morris tells 25 News that the exhibit will give Central Illinois a rare opportunity to view historic documents never before displayed together in one place anywhere in the country.
“To see documents that no one else in the country will see, all in one place, in one museum, anywhere this year,” Morris said.
The project represents a $2.5 million investment, including a $1 million commitment to ensure free access to the museum for all K-12 students across Illinois.
