PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Peoria Police saw a significant drop in murders and gun-specific murders in 2025.
Year-end stats show a 61 percent reduction in shooting deaths to seven, and a 45 percent cut in total murder cases for the year. Peoria Police reported 12 homicides in 2025, compared to 22 in 2024.
Both shooting incidents and shooting victims are also down over the past 12 months, 18 percent and 17 percent, respectively. PPD said 75 people were shot in 2025, down from 90 in 2024.
Since 2020, the total number of gunshot victims dropped even more, by nearly 50 percent.
Police Chief Eric Echevarria told 25 News, “We’re seeing meaningful progress that hasn’t been realized in many years. But we’re not declaring victory.”
Also, anonymous calls to tip411 exceeded 870 in 2025.
