PEORIA, Ill. (25 News) – Peoria has a new community space, a bubble for many indoor activities.
Officials held a ribbon-cutting Thursday inside the new dome during the 11th annual 365 Breakfast for the Peoria Public Schools Foundation.
The all-weather indoor athletic facility at Peoria Stadium is more than 100,000 square feet. It is for students at Richwoods, Manual, and Peoria high schools, but is also available for public and private events.
The AstroTurf space can accommodate several fields of play, depending on the age of the athletes. There are also golf simulators, batting cages, and other equipment.
Construction on the $8 million facility, with a grant covering half the cost, began in September of 2024.
Leaders tell 25 News that they anticipate youth leagues, clinics, and tournaments will be hosted in the dome.
