PEORIA, Ill. – Thursday’s potential vote by the Illinois Gaming Board on the proposed new Par-A-Dice facility may not be the final word on it.
The city of Peoria is seeking a temporary restraining order regarding the project, saying it violates the 1991 intergovernmental agreement to place a land-based casino in Peoria.
Boyd Gaming’s proposal creates a one-thousand gallon water basin under the new facility, using a loophole to avoid having the new casino as “land-based.”
Peoria City Manager Patrick Urich says a hearing on the TRO will not take place before Thursday morning’s vote. But he says all parties agreed to a court order providing any decision by the gaming board would be stayed until a hearing next Friday.
Urich says it’s also possible the gaming board may not vote on the proposal Thursday morning.
