PEORIA. Ill. (25 News) – A Peoria man accused of seriously injuring a newborn child last year was formally charged in court on Thursday morning.
20-year-old Jaravion Nichols was indicted by the Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office for aggravated battery for allegedly harming a two-month-old boy in December.
On Dec. 12, just after 5 p.m., Peoria Police learned that a baby had been dropped off in critical condition at a hospital emergency room. Police said the baby boy had severe head trauma and fractures throughout his body.
Nichols was released in January on GPS monitoring despite the charge.
According to 25 News, Nichols was expected to make a plea on Thursday, but he needed more time to meet with a private lawyer.
He returns to court on March 5.
