PEORIA, Ill. – A man has been returned to Peoria to face murder charges in an East Bluff shooting death two years ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 27-year-old Mickael Williams was ordered to remain in custody following a detention hearing Wednesday.
Williams is charged in connection to the January 4th, 2024 shooting death of 34-year-old Arlin Bermudez-Castellon. Williams is the second person charged with murder in the case, with David Stone convicted last October of murder in the case, with sentencing pending.
Williams was indicted for First Degree Murder on January 30th, 2024, with a warrant for his arrest issued the same day. Prosecutors say he was arrested in Texas one month after the murder, and was extradited to Peoria on Monday.
Police responded to the shooting in the area of Thrush and Peoria, finding Castellon with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers performed life-saving measures, but Castellon later died at a hospital.
Prosecutors say surveillance video from a nearby building shows Williams and Stone reportedly arriving at Castellon’s home via vehicle. Castellon is seen running from the home and collapsing in the front yard, with Williams and Stone allegedly fleeing the scene.
A handgun recovered reportedly matched shell casings that were collected from the scene.
