PEKIN (25 News) – A Pekin woman who pleaded guilty to asking an ex-boyfriend to kill her husband is now appealing the conviction and sentence.
48-year-old Allison Salinas is currently serving time in prison for attempting to have her husband killed by an ex-boyfriend. She pleaded guilty to the charge in August and was sentenced to 16 years in prison by Tazewell County Judge Chris Doscotch.
On Jan. 16, Salinas filed a motion to vacate the judge’s decision regarding her case, arguing before her guilty plea she was not evaluated for psychiatric illness, which she claims to have a “severe” history of.
According to 25 News, the motion also said her attorneys at the time did not share “vital information” to support her claims of innocence. Salinas said she cannot give the court her psychiatric history at this time because she is incarcerated, but she said that her new counsel would do so if the motion went to the appellate court.
Salinas also filed a motion to be exempt from fees related to her appeal, because she is unable to pay for an attorney or legal fees while in prison.
No date has been set to hear the motions in court.
