PEORIA, Ill. – Another defendant in a botched Facebook Marketplace robbery two years ago that left one person dead has learned their fate.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 20-year-old Tanarius Kingcade was sentenced to 21 years in prison on Friday. It was the maximum allowed after Kingcade pleaded guilty to Armed Robbery in November as part of a plea deal.
Kingcade was part of a group in January 2024 that attempted to rob a pair of people who had traveled to Peoria to purchase a vehicle through Facebook.
The pair were directed to an alley, where several individuals, which included Kingcade, attempted to rob the pair at gunpoint. One of the purchasers exchanged gunfire with the robbers, killing one of the robbers. The purchaser was not charged, as it was determined to be self-defense.
Kingcade was one of five people charged in the case, with all five pleading guilty to Armed Robbery.
20-year-old Jayln Branscumb was sentenced to 22 years in prison, and 29-year-old Sontarrius Williams was sentenced to 28 years. 21-year-old Jonathan Williams, who prosecutors say was not at the robbery but arranged the meeting on Facebook, was sentenced to eight years in prison.
20-year-old Keshawn Willimas has yet to be sentenced.
