PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria drivers are seeing a slight dip at the pump this week, with prices falling 5.5 cents over the last week. According to GasBuddy, the average price in Peoria is now $2.87 a gallon.
Despite the drop in prices, Peoria gas is 2.7 cents more expensive than a month ago, and 40.9 cents lower than this time last year. GasBuddy says the cheapest gas in Peoria on Sunday was $2.73 per gallon.
Nationally, the trend is moving in the opposite direction. The U.S. average price of unleaded gas has risen 1.2 cents in the last week, sitting at $2.88 a gallon.
Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy, says that prices “continue to drift higher as crude oil trades near its highest level since last summer,” driven by mounting geopolitical risk premiums tied to tensions between the United States and Iran. He also noted localized supply constraints, including refinery outages and planned maintenance, are amplifying price pressures. De Haan projects that as seasonal supply tightens, “the national average is increasingly likely to retest the $3-per-gallon threshold.”
Meanwhile, AAA Illinois says the average price of gas in the Peoria/Pekin metro area is $2.89. The state average price is $2.94, and the national price is $2.93 a gallon.
