DUNLAP, Ill. – A man had to be rescued from a fire in Dunlap late Sunday night.
Firefighters were called to a home in the area of N. 1st and Ash Streets around 9:40 p.m., finding heavy fire. They immediately requested assistance from surrounding fire departments.
A Dunlap fire official and a Peoria County Sheriff’s Deputy, while completing a walk-around, found an open back door and discovered the man inside the home.
According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, the man was stuck inside the home due to a previous stroke. He was taken to OSF Saint Francis Medical Center before being transferred to a burn unit in Springfield.
Firefighters had the fire under control within about 10 minutes. The Illinois State Fire Marshal was called to the scene to assist with an investigation.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
The Dunlap Community Fire Protection District was assisted by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, Akron-Princeville Fire, Brimfield Fire, Chillicothe Fire, Limestone Fire, Wyoming Fire, AMT, Village of Dunlap Public Works, and Ameren Illinois.
