PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria County jury found a man guilty of sexually assaulting a teenage relative more than a year ago.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 21-year-old Jordan Gibson was found guilty on Tuesday for Criminal Sexual Assault.
The trial lasted two days, with the jury convicting Gibson after 20 minutes of deliberation.
Prosecutors say the victim, who was 14 years old at the time, was setting up Christmas decorations in December of 20-24 when Gibson arrived at the home.
The victim testified Gibson entered her bedroom when she went upstairs to put laundry away and performed sex acts on her, after he pinned the victim down and pulled her pants down. The victim added that Gibson only stopped when he thought someone was coming.
Prosecutors say a forensic scientist who studied the sexual assault kit testified that Gibson’s DNA was found on two separate areas of the victim’s body. Gibson reportedly initially denied contact with the victim, but changed his story after he was confronted with the DNA.
Gibson will be sentenced on April 24th.
