PEORIA, Ill. – A woman has received the maximum sentence possible after hijacking at a Peoria strip mall last summer.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 33-year-old Taccara Dear to 12 years in prison after pleading guilty under a deal to Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking in November.
The incident occurred on July 20th, 2025, where officers responded after reports of a stolen vehicle at Sterling Plaza.
That’s where a victim told police that Dear reached through his car window, took his keys, and fled on foot. The victim attempted to stop her, but Dear struck the victim multiple times before driving away in his vehicle.
Prosecutors say two witnesses confirmed the victim’s statements.
Dear was found later on near the stolen vehicle, and admitted to stealing it before being taken into custody.
Prosecutors argued for the maximum sentence, arguing Dear was disrespectful during court proceedings and failed to take responsibility for her actions.
