STERLING, Ill. – Peoria Manual is returning to the state’s biggest stage in boys’ basketball.
The Rams punched their ticket Monday night to the IHSA Class 2A state finals, after a convincing victory over Johnsburg in the Sterling Supersectional, 75-41.
Manual will take on Tolono Unity in the first state semifinal on Thursday at 2:30 P.M. at State Farm Center in Champaign-Urbana.
Last year, Manual finished 4th in Class 2A, and is seeking its first state title in boys’ basketball since 1997.
Manual was the only Peoria-area team out of four to win their supersectional on Monday night.
In Class 1A, Tremont fell to Lanark Eastland, 47-45, at the Western Illinois University Supersectional in Macomb.
Morton’s run in Class 3A came to an end in DeKalb, as the Potters fell to undefeated Maple Park Kaneland, 49-47, at the Northern Illinois University Supersectional.
Peoria Richwoods was unable to join their fellow PPS school at state, falling to Chicago Marist, 56-53, at the Illinois State University Supersectional in Normal.
