PEORIA, Ill. – A home on Peoria’s southside was a total loss after a fire early Wednesday morning.
Battalion Chief Steve Rada said crews arrived just before 5 a.m., finding the home on W. Humboldt Avenue, in the area of Westmoreland and S. Livingston, completely engulfed in flames.
Due to the extent of the fire, crews made a defensive attack, using ladder trucks to get large volumes of water onto the home.
A search after the bulk of the fire was out determined the home was vacant.
Damage was estimated at $100,000. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Crews were expected to remain on the scene for several hours to make sure the flames were completely out before the home was demolished.
