PEKIN, Ill. – After a bit of a delay, a lease agreement regarding bus service has been reached between the city of Pekin and Pekin Community High School #303.
On Monday night, the Pekin city council unanimously approved the deal which allows PCHS to use the city’s Bus Department office space at 1130 Koch St.
The lease agreement is for two years, with PCHS paying $95,000 each year, and an option for a third year at market rate. The previous agreement called for a three-year lease with two one-year options. It was one of the details changed from last month, when the city council tabled a vote on approving the lease.
Other details of the agreement include the city being responsible for maintaining the building, with PCHS responsible for janitorial services. The city and PCHS will split the utility costs based on usage. The city will also provide vehicle maintenance, and supply fuel and vehicle parts.
District 303 Superintendent Danielle Owens says the district is appreciative for working with the city.
“It takes a little bit of time to get a bus transportation department from the ground up, getting ready to roll, so we appreciate the time and breath to be able to do that for the next couple of years,” Owens said.
Owens says the school district has already hired 42 people that worked for the city bus service to similar roles at #303.
