PEKIN, Ill. – An Iowa man is facing an attempted murder charge after allegedly stabbing his aunt and attacking a Pekin Police sergeant.
25 News reports 18-year-old Adam Stiltz was taken to the Tazewell County Jail after the incident late Monday night, at around 11:45 P.M.
Pekin Police were called to a home near Lamar and Arthur, with the sergeant reportedly meeting a woman in the doorway who claimed “he slit my daughter.” The sergeant reportedly saw Stiltz, who was the woman’s grandson, standing behind a woman allegedly holding a bloody knife.
A woman that was identified as Stiltz’s aunt was reportedly heard inside the home screaming.
Stiltz allegedly became combative when the sergeant attempted to handcuff him, and then reportedly started to fight him while making comments that he was dying and allegedly telling the sergeant he would kill him.
Pekin Police reportedly observed a stab wound to the woman’s hand, a detached door with blood on it in a hallway which appeared to have been stabbed by something, and blood in multiple areas of the home. A bloodied five-inch paring knife was collected from the living room.
Court documents say Stiltz had come to live in the Pekin home a few days prior due to behavioral issues.
Stiltz reportedly told family members that he consumed three bottles of cough syrup and was acting erratically the whole day, and had reportedly tried to stab a dog with a knife. Stiltz reportedly stated to police that he believed the cough syrup was killing him and he had gone crazy and attempted to kill everyone.
Stiltz also reportedly stated that he attempted to kill his aunt after becoming angry with her for screaming at him, and believed she was going to kill him while he was sleeping.
