PEORIA,Ill. – A portion of eastbound Interstate 74 was shut down after an Aldi semi-truck caught on fire Tuesday afternoon.
The fire was reported near milepost 87 at the split with I-474 and Route 6 around 4:30 p.m.
Initial reports indicated tires on the semi were smoking, and burning debris had spread to the roadway.
Dunlap Fire Chief Brandon Lanier said crews arrived to find the tires on fire, and the fire spreading to the trailer.
The semi was a total loss, but there were no injuries to the driver or firefighters at the scene. Brimfield and Limestone Fire Departments provided mutual aid.
The eastbound lanes of I-74 were reopened around 9:30 p.m.
