PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is giving high praise to one of their K-9 units after a police chase on Saturday.
The sheriff office says a deputy spotted a man on an unregistered mini-bike at around 3:00 P.M. on West Plank Road. The deputy attempted to stop the suspect, but the suspect allegedly escaped through the center lane and into a cornfield.
The suspect then allegedly attempted to flee police again by starting his mini-bike, and was warned that K-9 Freya would be deployed if he didn’t comply. The suspect then attempted to escape, but was taken down by Freya.
The suspect was treated for a bite to his arm, then arrested and booked in the Peoria County Jail on numerous traffic and fleeing charges.
Sheriff Chris Watkins tells WMBD’s “The Phil Luciano Show” that Freya is one of the best K-9 dogs he has ever seen.
“Very good tracking, obviously good at biting, sniffing,” Watkins said.
Watkins says Freya did what she was trained to do in the pursuit of the suspect.
Watkins says the suspect fled from police because he reportedly had warrants and did not want to be taken in.
