PEORIA, Ill. – A Mossville man has been charged after allegedly uploading child sex abuse materials to Snapchat.
The Peoria County State’s Attorney’s Office says 39-year-old Dustin Myers is charged with two counts of Child Pornography. He was ordered detained at a hearing on Thursday.
Prosecutors say Myers was arrested Wednesday after an investigation that began from a tip received on January 5th to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
A search warrant was obtained for the Snapchat and Gmail accounts linked to it and allegedly found child sex abuse materials on both, with phone numbers associated to the accounts reportedly linked to Myers.
Myers reportedly told police during questioning that the accounts belonged to him, but denied that the child sex abuse material was his.
Prosecutors say Myers was additionally charged with Violation of Sex Offender Registration. Myers allegedly failed to register an active Snapchat account with law enforcement, based on a previous sex abuse case in Woodford County. Prosecutors say he previously violated that registration in a second case out of Woodford County.
