GOODFIELD, IL – Goodfield Police have arrested a suspect linked to a fraud case involving close to $39,000 stolen from over 30 victims after a four-month investigation.
The investigation began on November 26, 2025, when the Goodfield Police Department took a report from someone who said their paychecks, totaling approximately $8,300, had been redirected to unknown bank accounts. Through search warrants, police discovered that these accounts contained additional victim deposits, bringing the total stolen to approximately $39,000.
The investigation led police to identify Laylah Blount, of Kinston, North Carolina, as the prime suspect.
After obtaining an arrest warrant, Goodfield Police officers traveled to North Carolina on March 30. In conjunction with the Kinston Police, they served a search warrant at Blount’s residence, where she was taken into custody.
Authorities seized a number of cell phones, computers, and tablets from the home.
Blount faces felony charges in Illinois for Aggravated Identity Theft, Theft over $500, and Fraudulent use of Electronic Transmission.
